To enable children to become successful in speaking and listening, reading and writing they need to have phonological awareness. Children develop these skills from EYFS 1 through the delivery of our comprehensive phonics programme devised by us as a school supported by resources from the Read Write Inc. Scheme, the Letters and Sounds document and resources purchased through the government Match Funding Scheme. This programme develops the phonological awareness required for them to read and write confidently in all areas of the curriculum.
Phonics is taught in small groups across the school on a daily basis and children are grouped according to their individual needs. Progress is tracked regularly and children move between groups according to their needs. The quality of phonics teaching is monitored regularly and all staff are involved in on-going training as needed.
Parents can find out more about our phonics work through our phonics sectionin the Home Learning Hub.
