Two children from our Forces Friends group represented our school at a very special event in Torpoint on Thursday 28th January.

Mr Burdett who is 103 years old received the Legion d' Honneur from the French Government to honour him for his part in the DDay Landings and the liberation of France.

He was presented with the medal by the French Consul Alain Sibril in the presence of special guests who included Rear Admiral John Clink of the Royal Navy Flag Officer Sea Training and Commander Emmanuel Rouve of the French Navy.

The medal, which was introduced by Napoleon in the early 1800s, is being given out to all veterans who took part in the amphibious landing on the beaches of Normandy 72 years ago.

President Francois Hollande announced the awarding of the Legion d’Honneur to Normandy veterans during the 70th anniversary commemorations of D-Day on June 6 2014.

Thank you to Andy Campfield for the large photographs on this page.
