Home Learning - Some Additional Resources
Supporting your child with mathematics - this contains some great games and investigations and information on how to form numbers correctly
A handwriting guide for parents - this will support you to help your child start their letters in the right place and be ready to join in Year 2.
Our three phonics mats - these are to help with reading and writing ( your child may know the sounds on all or some of these mats). Please encourage them to say short sounds...you already have infomation about this in your child's reading book. The Oxford Owl website has some useful pronunciation guides. It is free to join up and also has some free books that your child can read online. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/learn-to-read-phonics/
There are some words that do not follow phonics rules- they are called 'the common exception words'. We have attached sheets of these words for Year One and Year Two. You could use these sheets to play spelling games with your children. Our advice would be to find out which ones your children already know and then look at fun ways to learn a new one each day.
We have also included some mindfulness activities for you to try with your child...maybe your child can tell you about and teach you their favourite mindfulness activity from school.
Thank you for your support at this uncertain time and we will continue to support you as much as possible. Please continue to read with your child every day and ask them questions about the main characters and events. It is so important for children to continue their love of reading as a lifelong skill.
