Silver Stories is the initiative started in our school where children telephone a Silver Listener (an elderly person in Torpoint and then read a short story or poem to them). This not only helps the children to become more confident in their reading skills but also links our children to the elderly community in Torpoint and helps diminish their chances of feeling loneliness and isolation.
On 19th December, Mrs Sarah Coryton, former High Sheriff of Cornwall; hosted a Christmas lunch for a group of our Silver Listeners at Pentillie Castle.
Children from our school took part in the festive pre-lunch singing before reading two Christmas stories. It was a wonderful festive occasion which was enjoyed by young and old alike.
Put your finger on your nose to wait your turn to speak!
On Wednesday 19th December a reporter from Radio Cornwall came into school to interview our School Council for their breakfast programme.
She asked them about how they ran their meetings and took decisions. The children spoke about how they take turns, listen to each other in meetings and gather the opinions of their classmates to share in School Council and with Mrs Carney-Haworth in the meetings they have with her.
The presenters thought that John Bercow the Speaker of the House of Commons could use their tips for MP’S!
