Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

Over the last term the children in Year Two have been working with musicians from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. This orchestra play all over the world and with some very famous musicians, but this time they chose to work with us. The compositions were all on the theme of water and fitted in with our work about the sea and also the role of water in our lives.

It also fitted in with the SMSC ( spritual, moral, social and cultural) aspects of the childrens education as they took empty bottles filled with coins with them ...not just to use as shakers but also to raise money for water aid.

On Friday 15Th May the children visited  Devonport Guildhall to sing the songs they had learnt with them. We performed three songs especially written by composer James Redwood and the orchestra also played a range of classical pieces for us and the other schools. The children were amazed by the musicianship of the performances… and the orchestra were amazed by our children.
