Healthy Schools Award 2015

Our school council were invited to attend the Cornwall Healthy School Award Ceremony at Wadebridge. During the ceremony we were presented with our Healthy School Award for the fifteenth year running!

The Healthy Schools programme is one we are committed to as a school. Being healthy, safe, cared for, having a voice and influence are important aspects to being 'ready to learn' and achieving true potential - at any stage in our lives. We want our children to grow healthily, safely and responsibly and to become active citizens who do their bit for society and for the environment.

This year we were also awarded a Healthy Schools Plus award for the work we do with the children in our school who have parents in the Armed Forces. It was recognised that this work supports the Emotional Health and Wellbeing of the whole school community.

In addition there was a very special award presented to one member of our school community. This was a Scolly Award: these are awarded to people who have made an outstanding contribution to wellbeing and Healthy Schools work over the last year. Mrs Carney- Haworth was presented the award for her inspiring leadership of, and vision for, Healthy Schools work in our school. Kate Pordage who presented the award remarked on her outstanding contribution to the whole school community and went on to comment on how her nomination from the school staff included details of how her recent accident did not affect her unwavering commitment to the school! The very next day, after 7 hours surgery, they received a video from her lying in her hospital bed sending her love to both children and staff!  Staff said that Lis is a truly inspirational leader, who believes in every member of staff and child within the school and that it is a privilege to work with a team who are all committed to her vision.

Mrs Carney- Haworth said “It was a wonderful morning for the school in so many ways. I am proud of the work our school does to support the physical and emotional health and wellbeing for all our children. It was humbling to receive the very special award given to me which was instigated by my staff”
