Message from Mr Hamlyn

Dear Year 2 Parents,

With the transition from Torpoint Nursery and Infant School to Carbeile being the best it has ever been, we thought it would be a good idea for me to introduce myself and to outline some of the key dates for the rest of the summer term.

Everyone at Carbeile is so excited to welcome your children in September.  Hopefully we will be able to welcome Year 3 parents into school far more next year too – the current Year 3 parents haven’t managed to step foot in the building yet due to COVID.

We are also hugely grateful to Mrs. Kellond and her team for making the transition so fabulous this year; Mrs. Lock has worked so hard to ensure that there is a detailed transition in place for the children who might need a few extra visits.  Our two schools are working so closely together to make sure that the transition from Year 2 to Year 3 is as seamless as it can possibly be, so that your child’s learning and progress is uninterrupted.

There have already been numerous meetings between the two schools to share current practice at TNIS that will continue at Carbeile so that everything is very familiar for your child.  Miss Jones delivered Makaton training to all Carbeile staff to ensure we are able to communicate effectively and Carbeile staff will be going to TNIS soon to deliver training about the Learning Powers that we use at Carbeile.  As you can see, we are all doing everything we can to ensure your child is ready for their move to Year 3 at Carbeile. We have taken the decision that your children will remain with their classes when they join us and we are therefore delighted to inform you of the new classes for September

Squirrels:- Bearah,   Teacher: Mrs Shaw and a new teacher yet to be appointed

Otters:-Tregarrick, Teacher: Mr Davey

Moles:- Kilmar , Teacher :Mrs Marks

Hedgehogs :-Trewortha,   Teacher: Miss Hendy

You will see below some dates that are really important for the transition process.  If you have any questions about any of them, please do not hesitate to email Mrs. Kellond (head@torpoint-inf.cornwall.sch.uk) or me (head@carbeile.cornwall.sch.uk) and we will clarify things for you.

I look forward to seeing you for our parent meeting on Monday 28th June at 9.30am, where I will outline everything you might need to know about Carbeile.  If you have a child with Special Educational Needs (or if you just want to meet her), please come to Carbeile on Monday 21st June at 3.45pm to meet Holly Bridges, our new SENCO, starting in September.

Take care and stay safe.

Pete Hamlyn
