Remembrance 2017

Poppy Wave

Inspired by the Poppy Wave on Plymouth Hoe children in Year Two each made a poppy for our own Poppy Wave in School

The Plymouth Herald were very interested to find out about it.

Poppy Appeal

As well as taking the Royal British Legion Poppies around the school to enable children to make a donation , we also have Poppies available outside school. Thank you for your genrous donations.

Remembrance Service

On the Friday nearest to Armistice Day we hold our own Remembrance Service in our school for all our children from Reception to Year Two and representatives from our nursery. The ceremony includes poetry and songs that encourage reflection together with key features from Remembrance Services including a two minute silence and the laying of wreaths. The wreaths are made from poppies which are created by the children.

We invite special guests from the local community and this year we were honoured by the attendance of Sir Richard Carew-Pole, Mrs Sarah Coryton; High Sheriff of Cornwall  and Mr Pearn, Freeman of Torpoint and MBE.  The service was also attended by The Mayor of Torpoint alongside other Torpoint Town Councillors together with members of the Royal British Legion, The Royal Naval Association, Local Churches, Silver Listeners, parents’ of children from our Forces Friends group and our School Governing Body.

Armistice Day

Our school’s MKC Standard was taken to the two minute silence and wreath laying ceremony at Sparrow Park on Armistice Day.

One of our younger children from the Reception class laid a wreath with Mrs Carney- Haworth

Thank you to Andy Campfield for the additional photographs from this event

Remembrance Sunday

22 children from our Forces Friends Group represented the school at the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service in Torpoint. They, together with all the children from our school who took with other organisations such as Rainbows and Beavers, made every member of our community proud as they took their place in our town’s collective act of Remembrance.
