Home and School Partnerships

"Of course, the children come first and are always your top priority but to deal with the children you need to understand and support the whole family. This is something in my experience that Torpoint Nursery and Infant School excel in."  A parent

"Fantastic communication between school, teachers and parents. Always feel that I can come in and talk to you about any issues."  A parent

When home and school work positively together, the benefits to the child are enormous, so we operate an Open Door policy which means that you can come in to see Mrs Carney-Haworth at any time; you do not need to make an appointment. If you have any concerns please come in and talk to us. Class teachers are also available to chat either before the start of the school day or preferably at the end of the day. At any time you can talk to your child’s class teacher about your child’s progress in school.

We are keen to develop a truly positive relationship with you so that together we can help your child gain the most from their time at our school.

Each term we organise a meeting for you and your child’s class teacher – an opportunity for you both to share information about how well your child is learning and the next steps for their learning.  These meetings take place during the day so that we can offer you a longer appointment.

We will also give you a written report each term during this meeting and each report will identify the key next steps in learning for your child.

During the year we build up a picture of your child’s learning and experiences – this is called the Learning Journey Book.  It will include notes of our observations, photographs of experiences and pieces of work.  This book will be discussed at each termly meeting and given to you when your child starts the next school year as a permanent record of their experiences in school

"I was really impressed with the detailed Learning Journey – this was very personal and staff had obviously taken time and care to put them together- thank you." A parent
